Open Mic and Poetry Slam 2017

Open Mic and Poetry Slam 2017

All times listed in Central Time.

There will be music and prizes. The slam portion will have 2 rounds, so bring at least 2 original poems if you want to be in the contest.

Before the slam begins, we will honor the life of Gwendolyn Brooks, the first African American poet to receive the Pulitzer Prize. In 1968, Brooks was appointed Poet Laureate of Illinois, a position she held until her death in 2000. This year would have marked her 100th birthday.

Sponsored by the Department of Languages and Literature and the University Library.

This event is free and open to the public.
